Faust Harrison Pianos Proudly Announce The Prizewinners of Their Mason and Hamlin vs Steinway Piano Evaluation
Three-Year Piano Evaluation Comes To a Close and Reveals A $60,000.00 Grand Prize Winner
New York, NY December 11, 2004 -- Faust Harrison Pianos, America's largest independent retailer of fully rebuilt "vintage era" Steinway and Mason & Hamlin pianos, has completed a three-year study and evaluation to determine which of two pianos pianists would prefer. The two instruments evaluated were new American-made Steinway and Mason & Hamlin seven-foot grand pianos.
The criterion on which the instruments were judged were: sound, touch, and overall quality; the contest lay in a single prediction, with each pianist being asked to guess which piano they thought would win, what they believed the other pianists were most likely to say. The pianist who predicted most accurately would be awarded a new Mason & Hamlin model BB grand piano or a new Steinway model B grand piano, each of which is worth $60,000.00.
Of all 281 pianists who participated in the event, Roger Peltzman, a pianist and fast-rising talent proved to be the grand prizewinner of Faust Harrison Pianos evaluation contest! Mr. Peltzmans predictions were the closest to the final tabulated results and secured him a Mason & Hamlin model BB grand piano. Mr. Peltzman was beside himself when informed by Irving Faust (originator and architect of the evaluation) that he was the grand-prize winner. This good fortune could not have come at a better time for Mr. Peltzman; he had been practicing on an old sub-standard piano that proved inadequate for a musician of his talents. Additionally with the expenditure of his recent marriage and honeymoon, there was no possibility of him affording such an exquisite instrument. Mr. Peltzman and his bride will return to New York on December 2nd, and will meet with the owners of Faust Harrison Pianos and be presented with congratulations and the prize prize.
Second prize was awarded to Mr. Jeffrey Klitz. This prize is a transferable coupon valid for up to three years and worth $10,000 towards the purchase of any new Mason & Hamlin or Estonia grand piano in the Faust Harrison inventory. The odds of winning this prize, based purely on chance, were 1 in 281. Third prize was awarded to Mr. Jerry Wong and is also a transferable coupon valid for up to three years and worth $5,000 towards the purchase of any new Mason & Hamlin or Estonia grand piano in the Faust Harrison inventory. The odds of winning this prize, based purely on chance, were 1 in 280. Fourth prize, which was awarded to each of 50 participants, is a transferable coupon valid for up to three years and worth $1,500 and may redeemed accordingly within the perimeter of the second and third prize. The odds of winning third prize, based purely on chance, were 50 in 279 (or about 1 in 5.5).
